As self-regulated healthcare professionals, respiratory therapists train to care for patients in clinical, diagnostic and community settings. It is this diversity of practice settings which makes respiratory therapists unique in the healthcare field in Canada.

At SickKids, the Department of Respiratory Therapy models excellence and leadership in paediatric cardio-respiratory care, education and research across the hospital. Respiratory therapists (RTs) are considered champions of interprofessionalism and patient advocacy. RTs can be found throughout SickKids in all in-patient and critical care areas, emergency care, pulmonary and sleep clinics, simulation, research and acute transport services. The following programs have been designed to educate and further develop those providing respiratory interventions and support for infants, children and adolescents in acute health care settings. These training programs can be further customized to meet the specific requests and unique needs of global partners.
