Paediatric Specialty Nursing Program

Course Aim

This education program provides nurses with specialty knowledge and skills to work safely and effectively as paediatric healthcare providers.

Program Overview

The Paediatric Specialty Nursing Program is an evidence-based paediatric curriculum focusing on competencies essential to care for infants, children and adolescents in acute care settings. The program includes both in-class and practical hands-on experiences to facilitate knowledge into practice.

Participants will gain knowledge and skills in the nursing assessment, care delivery, and evaluation of care related to paediatric conditions. Participants will also learn and apply principles of child development, family-centred care and interprofessional collaboration. At the end of the program, competency-based assessments will determine participants’ skills and abilities in essential practices such as suctioning, oxygen delivery, nutrition and feeding as well as intravenous therapy.

Program faculty include SickKids’ expert facilitators and clinical mentors who work with nurse participants to support high quality programming.
