The Disruptive Behaviour Disorders Workshop – The SickKids Tele-Mental Health Education Workshop Series

Course Aim

The aim of this workshop is to support healthcare professionals in the development of knowledge and skills related to the supportive care of children and adolescents with disruptive behaviour disorders.

Program Overview

The Disruptive Behaviour Disorders Workshop is a series of seminars held over 3 half-days, designed for healthcare providers who are involved in the care of children and adolescents with disruptive behaviour disorders (including ADHD, ODD and conduct disorder). The workshop provides learners with exposure to the epidemiology, assessment, and treatment (including psychotherapy, pharmacological treatments, and family and community approaches) related to caring for children with disruptive behaviour disorders. Participants will attend a customized series of lectures with world-class faculty via videoconference technology. Emphasis will also be placed on providing learners with content related to diagnostic interviewing techniques, therapeutic approaches and common pharmacotherapies.

The series is designed for a wide variety of healthcare professionals practicing in hospital settings or in the community, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and psychologists

The series can also be customized for delivery in person, on site within your organization as a 3-day workshop.

What is Telemedicine?

The Tele-Mental Health Education Series is designed to educate and further develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes for those providing mental health and psychiatry services, support and education for children and adolescents in a variety of healthcare settings.  This unique education delivery model allows your clinicians to maintain regular connections to the curriculum while remaining embedded in their own unique organizational context and practice setting. Interactive teaching methods are emphasized, including the use of case-based discussions and flipped classroom experiences. Education sessions may involve two centres (point-to-point), or more than two centres connected at one time (multi-point). The real advantage of using videoconferencing for education is that entire programs and multi-disciplinary teams from different institutions can participate in a single event. Seminars are geared at either an introductory or advanced level to meet the needs of the diversity of practitioners at our far sites. In addition, the seminars within the series can be scheduled longitudinally over a period of time, in order to allow for consolidation of learning between sessions.
